Policies
Before signing up for any class, please review our expectations and policies so that you have a wonderful experience with FoHi Improv!
We here at FoHi Improv hope to provide a wonderful improv experience to all of those who wish to participate! We have many goals that we hope to achieve, such as the following:
FoHi Improv aims to make improv open and accessible to everyone.
We aim to provide a fun, friendly, encouraging, trusting, safe and supportive environment where people can enjoy performing and watching improv.
We aim to represent the full variety of improv styles, from people of different backgrounds working and playing together.
FoHi Improv aims to support new improvisers and groups by providing a safe and supportive environment for them to build up performing experience and experiment with new ideas. We aim to have a space for everyone, from beginner improvisers stepping on stage for the first time to experienced folks who have taken many classes.
We aim to provide a supportive and welcoming environment to people of all ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds, physical abilities, cultural views, sexual orientations, religions and nationalities, and are currently working to encourage greater diversity and accessibility in the improv scene.
FoHi Improv is also trying to put on additional events like jams and showcases to help grow the Queens improv community.
FoHi Improv aims to provide safe and supportive events where people in Queens can join a community and make new friends.
In order to achieve these goals, we have high expectations of our participants! They are:
Support each other, on stage and off stage.
Support other groups.
Listen to your scene partner.
Yes And your scene partner, unless it is unsafe or demeaning to do so.
Collaborate with, rather than compete with, your fellow improvisers.
Respect physical boundaries and don’t do anything physically dangerous to yourself or your scene partner.
Respect sexual boundaries, on and off stage.
Improvise from a place of fun, love, kindness and respect for your fellow improvisers and audience.
Safety, trust and support is always more important than the temporary existence of an improv show. So if in doubt, stop the show, and you won’t be made to feel bad for doing so.
You should never have to perform in an unsafe or unsupportive environment. If in doubt, talk to us! We do not expect performers to deal with unsafe situations.
Help us to create an environment free from harassment of any kind.
Difficult subject matter in scenes, characters with unpleasant viewpoints, and human/society/political issues can be tackled on stage if that is the artistic choice of the group, as long as the scene is to be treated with full emotional intelligence and the themes and moral implications of those viewpoints fully explored in the ongoing story in an intelligent manner.
Please no drug use or excessive drinking before performing.
Improv is a highly personal, vulnerable activity. The expectation is that all students will do their best to arrive on time, stay for the full length of the class, turn their phones to silent, and most importantly, be respectful towards one another in the class space.
We take health seriously. If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend class. We are also mask friendly and if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask to class for any reason, we are happy to accommodate.
Removal Policy: FoHi Improv is an equal opportunity experience. We welcome ALL to participate in our classes! We do, however, take safety very seriously. If we are alerted to a student who is making others feel uncomfortable, we will speak with the student. If the student continues to make others feel uncomfortable and does not change their behaviors, then FoHi Improv reserves the right to kindly ask that student to not participate in their courses.
Attendance: Students may miss no more than 2 classes in order to be eligible to perform with their class for a student showcase. There is no performance for Drop-in classes and some electives, but all other levels generally do have a showcase and the comfort level to perform within it relies on attendance for all students.
Payments: In order to purchase a class, you can pay in the following ways:
Venmo (@FoHiImprov)
Zelle (FoHiImprov@gmail.com)
Credit Card (+6% fee) via the Class Registration Page
Registration Complete Upon Payment: Registration is not complete and you are not placed in the class until payment is received in full.
Refund Policy: Exchanges or credits are allowed up to 48 hours before the class begins. There are no credits or exchanges after that time period or after the class begins. In the event of the course not being filled enough to run or an emergency on FoHi Improv’s end and the entire course needs to be cancelled, students can choose to have either a credit towards another course of the same value, or a full refund. If one class is cancelled due to an emergency, all efforts will be made to either find a substitute or to reschedule the class at a time that is convenient to as many as possible. Credit expires after one year of being issued.
